What the role is
A Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) is a software engineer who works directly with customers or an internal business team to turn a messy problem into a deployed solution. The job mixes engineering, integration work and customer communication.
It is not a support engineer or a sales engineer. An FDE writes and ships production code, usually across data pipelines, APIs, internal tools and, increasingly, LLM-based workflows.
